What you can do in this workshop

  • Learn basic skills: You can learn how to use various tools, brush strokes, and different styles.
  • Create your own works: You can write your kanji name or your favorite characters.
  • Obtain the works of Ohaku: If you're interested, you can also acquire Ohaku's works during the workshop!

What to bring

  • Aprons or clothes that you don't mind getting dirty: Black ink is difficult to wash off if it gets on your clothes.
  • Newspaper (if you can, to prevent mess on the table)

Biography: Kana Tsujiwaki (Calligrapher penname: Ohaku )

In a serene temple near my home in Wakayama, my journey with calligraphy began at the age of nine. Surrounded by the quiet reverence of ink and paper, I found comfort and inspiration in the graceful strokes of Japanese characters.

Over the years, I have learned various styles and techniques, both through imitation and by creating my own works. Some of my pieces have been showcased in exhibitions.

During the pandemic, I achieved certification as a grand master, earning the penname "Ohaku." I organized Japanese calligraphy workshops at cultural exchange events while I was a university student, and I also introduced it to non-Japanese colleagues during my time at CLAIR Tokyo headquarters.

Inspired by their enthusiasm, I have dreamed of bringing calligraphy workshops to Australia.

My goal is simple: to share the beauty and joy of calligraphy with as many people as possible, enriching lives one brushstroke at a time. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level!
