Description

‘She'll be right’ Theatre Performance

Students from Brazil, China, Columbia, Iraq, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam and Australia take to the stage in a powerful hour of storytelling about their experiences.

Just another international student?

A doctor working where drug dealers rule. An engineer now cleaning toilets. A good girl taking off her mask. A teacher passionate to share her language. A banker questioning the real value. A volunteer translating for Syrian refugee....and more

This performance will transport you in and out of cultural stereotypes through stories of passion, dream and sacrifice as students find a new voice in Melbourne and redefine who they are.

“Which story do you want to know, the one I tell my parents or the one I tell my friends?"

This is a FREE performance presented to you by Study Melbourne and AFIS, ISANA, City of Melbourne, Deakin University, Victoria University and RMIT University as the support of the ‘Act of Translation Reaches Out’ project.

Please book your ticket here.

The Act of Translation Reaches Out

International Students have a voice! By popular demand. "She'll Be Right" returns with two more shows! Supported by Study Melbourne, the team from the 2017 project "Act of Translation" now brings you "Act of Translation reaches out!" The students who performed in “She’ll Be Right” reconvene under the skilled direction of Catherine Simmonds (Artistic Director) to adapt and rehearse the show, ready to reach out to a regional area (Deakin Uni Geelong) and also into TAFE (Vic Uni). Each performance of ‘She’ll Be Right' is an opportunity to connect with you the audience, an opportunity to inspire the audience to also speak up and tell us "What do you think about the issues and stories presented?" "Do you relate, if so why?" "What are the other issues impacting international students?" "How can we help" The aim of these conversations is to further our awareness around issues, create connections and provide material for future creative developments.
