Shearwater Spectacular - Educational Evening!
An educational talk where you’ll meet the amazing birds who've flown all the way from the Arctic Circle
Meet the extraordinary birds who cross the equator each year to nest in Tasmania. Suitable for teachers, educators and wildlife enthusiasts.
At the approach to Clifton Beach, turn off onto Bicheno Street. Drive along Bicheno Street beside Pipe Clay Lagoon to the Cape Deslacs turn off. Continue to the end carpark where we will meet. As a group we will walk 1.5km along the road (3 km return). When we reach the lookout we'll stand quietly, watch the twilight approach and wait for the birds to arrive under the cover of darkness.
It is a late night and unforgettable wildlife experience!
Be sure to bring a warm coat for the wind. It gets very cool when there's a strong breeze off the ocean. If you have binoculars bring them along - you might be the first to spot the birds on the horizon!
Run by: Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE) volunteers
Cost: Free for members, non members and children (suggest over 10)
