Event description

I grew up in rural Mount Isa on the family farm with Nan, Grandad and sister for 14 years. I made the move to the Tablelands in 2010 where I graduated from Ravenshoe State High. Along the way I have completed 5 Tafe certificates and Diplomas and worked in Fitness, Hospitality and Law. I now currently work for Tablelands Regional Council as a Community Services Trainee doing all sorts of wonderful tasks.

I am constantly keeping active by swimming, attending pilaties, training and playing touch football in Atherton and Cairns. On the weekends I am kept busy chasing cows, my kelpie, niece, nephew and hanging out with friends and family. I am of Aboriginal descent and I really enjoy getting into the bush, camping around a fire next to a river and seeing and experiencing new things.

The charity I am supporting is Tableland Community Link (TCL). A small community organisation run for locals by locals.

Over the years, TCL has adapted and changed services to meet the needs of clients in their community. TCL provide a strong, people power support network individually and in a group setting.

TCL have been providing valued support to the Tablelands for over 24 Years.

Support requirements and client needs are negotiated between the client and the support worker. The support workers direct their efforts to the client in increasing their independence and value to the community.

TCL have run very successful fundraising events over the years such as the “Wheelchair Rally” and recently the Roll and Walk-a-thon. They have an annual Christmas Party and clients hold a monthly meeting to discuss what activities they would like to organise and participate in.

TCL resonate with me because they are passionate people following their heart and refuse to back down from a challenge. TCL work hard for their client’s needs and keep their best interests as the top priority. TCL are a role model for society to show hard work and determination can build (literally) your dreams and goals.

My goal is to raise enough money to complete the kitchen in the TCL Activities Centre “The Grove” to be accessible for clients to create delicious food. The walls need to be lined and items such as appliances, utensils and equipment are required.
