Women’s Health East (a regional women’s health promotion agency) warmly invites you to attend our free professional development sessions on sexual and reproductive heatlh.

These workshops will occur face to face and include the following focus topics:

Workshop 1: Preventing discrimination and stigma (19th March).
Workshop 2: Improving access for international students (17th April), Click here to register.

You are welcome to attend one or all workshops, they are designed to compliment each other but equally can be attended alone. Please register for each event separately.

Aim of workshop series: Increase the capacity and sexual and reproductive health knowledge of health and community workers.

Who should attend? These workshops are targeted towards health workers (including clinicians and health promoters), bicultural workers, disability and community workers, youth workers, education staff, Council workers, University or TAFE staff or students. These events are particularly aimed at workers in the North and Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, however everyone is welcome to attend.

Workshop 4: Sexual and reproductive health workshop: sex, gender norms, intersex, trans and gender diverse people.

This free capacity building workshop addresses inequities in sexual and reproductive health, focusing particularly on how sex and gender norms affect the health of intersex, trans and gender diverse people.

Doors open from 9.45, event begins at 10.05.

Event outline:

  • Free brunch (fruit, french pastries, muffins, friands) provided by local business Cafe Saporo, alongside tea and coffee.
  • Kochava Lilit (zey/them) from Women's Health East will discuss why sex and gender norms are a social determinant of sexual and reproductive health, and the context for Melbourne's North and East.
  • Cody Smith (they/them) is the Senior Projects Officer at Intersex Human Rights Australia. Cody has been a Canberra based intersex educator and activist for the last eight years. They’ve been involved in building organisational capacity, policy development, running peer support programs, as well as developing resources and training from a lived experience perspective.
  • Vic Harden (they/them) is the Trans and Gender Diverse Health Lead at Thorne Harbour health and leads the Trans and Gender Diverse in Community Health (TGDiCH) Training Project. They have a background as a Registered Nurse, with experience in community and sexual health nursing. Vic is a co-chair of the Victorian Government’s Trans and Gender Diverse Expert Advisory Group and a Board Member of the Australian Professional Association of Trans Health.
  • Starlady (she/her) works as a program manager at Zoe Belle Gender Collective (ZBGC). Starlady is a social justice advocate whose work is underpinned by the human rights principals of equity and freedom of expression. She is passionately committed to addressing discrimination and prejudice within our society through her work in advocacy, education, training and community development. Starlady has a wealth of experience delivering training and secondary consultation to a range of health and human services on trans and gender diverse and broader LGBTIQ+ inclusive practice initiatives.
  • Lots of time for Q and A with our guest speakers.
  • Networking opportunities to meet others working, volunteering or studying with an interest in this topic.
  • Group reflective activity.


Learning outcomes:

  • An understanding of the social determinants of sexual and reproductive health, and of the role of primary prevention in improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes.
  • Increased confidence to apply knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, and the specific sexual and reproductive health needs of intersex, trans and gender diverse people as a priority underserved population.
  • Knowledge of local advocacy organisations.
  • Increased understanding of access barriers, stigma and discrimination experienced by intersex, trans and gender diverse people as underserved priority populations in testing and treatment.
  • Meet other professionals interested or working in sexual and reproductive health in Melbourne's North and Eastern suburbs, creating possible future shared opportunities.

Limited spots available. Please RSVP now to secure your place. Given our funding, priority is given to individuals living, working or studying in Melbourne's North or East (however people from outside the region are welcome). A waiting list will be enabled if places run out. Please let organisers know if you can no longer attend the event.

Venue: This workshop will be held in the large meeting room at Sexual Health Victoria, Box Hill clinic (please note although we are using their venue this event is not organised by Sexual Health Victoria). The venue is a 5 minute walk from Box Hill Railway station or 2 minutes from the 109 tram stop, with many cafes nearby. Very limited metered parking is available in the area, or we recommend paying for parking ($11) at the Harrow Street Carpark (2 - 10 Harrow Street Box Hill) nearby, which is a 9 min walk away. We encourage attendees to use active transport to attend this event where possible.

Accessibilty: Accessible and gender neutral toilets, ramp access, disabled car parking, wheelchairs. Microphones and speakers will be used throughout the event. Videos will be captioned.
