This course is designed to provide ’hands on’ skills and knowledge in the specific processes used, from start to finish an item from tracing a pattern, cutting, marking fabric and step by step sewing and finishing of an item.
It will provide with skills and knowledge in the specific processes used, in making including finishing a lined Canadian Smocked Cushion.
By the end of this course, you will learn specific processes for making including finishing a lined Canadian Smocked Cushion.
Specific skills include:
- Fabrics and grainlines;
- Tracing and cutting a pattern;
- Marking the pattern for the leaf on fabric;
- Cutting fabric and lining;
- Seams and seam finishes and zip insertion;
- Step by step construction of a lined Canadian smocked cushion
Please bring to first class:
- Tape measure/measuring tape
- Fabric – old sheets/curtains you may have at home or purchased from Op-shops for no more than $5.00.
- 28cm - 30cm zip
- Scissors – paper and fabric (invest in a good fabric scissors)
- Butchers paper/any paper to cut pattern
- Cut cushion pattern on paper – 37cm x 37cm, 58cm x 58cm, and 37cm x 40cm
- Dressmaking pins
- Needle and thread
- Pen/Pencil
- Dressmaking pen that washes off
- Rubber
- Ruler
- L- Square if expensive buy a small set square (required to check 90-degree angles)
- Note pad
