Knowledge to Action Webinar Series: Enabling Research Impact at ANU

About this event

The Knowledge to Action network is excited to announce our upcoming webinar series:

Enabling Research Impact at ANU

Join the Knowledge to Action Network as we learn, debate and discuss how, why and what ANU staff are doing to enable research impact.

Over the next 12 months we have a variety of speakers who will be sharing their experiences and their approaches to supporting and achieving research impact. The series seeks to provoke discussion and provide the opportunity to share our collective learnings.

Setting up for success

Our first conversation is with Professor Sara Bice and Kirsty O’Connell from the Institute for Infrastructure in Society (I2S), and will be hosted by Dr Ginny Sargent from the ANU PHXchange, Research School of Population Health.

From their approach to funding, to strategic partnerships, through to innovative research approaches, I2S has been set up with impact in mind. Join us as we learn more about their early successes and challenges. We will open up discussion on institutional models that can be used to achieve and promote sustainable ways to carry out impactful research.

Professor Sara Bice is Foundation Director I2S at the Crawford School of Public Policy. She is a Vice Chancellor’s Futures Scheme Senior Fellow for her work on The Next Generation Engagement program, Australia’s largest study into community engagement in infrastructure Sara’s research agenda is cross-cutting and deeply engaged with industry and government. Her research focuses on the intersection of corporations, communities and governments as they negotiate the impacts of major projects, with an aim to mitigate environmental and social risks and optimise potential benefits.

Kirsty O’Connell is Industry Director at I2S  and leads their industry engagement through her company, The Engagement People. She is a founding partner in this exciting work.  Kirsty has successfully led communication and engagement for more than $17 billion infrastructure projects during her 20 year career. She holds an MBA with majors in finance, sustainability and innovation gained in Australia, the UK and France and is a member of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia’s Stakeholder Advisory Committee (ISCA). Kirsty lends her considerable industry experience to ensure industry concerns and aspirations stay at the heart of the I2S.

Dr Ginny Sargent is the Implementation Lead of the PHXchange (Population Health Xchange). This core project of the RSPH is embedding capabilities for engagement and research translation to achieve greater research impact. Ginny has extensive experience in population health research including: evaluation of government programs and policy; using co-production and other Implementation Science approaches.
