Session 1: Curious Transmissions

Session 1: Curious Transmissions

Overview

Your story becomes the line, join artist Mollie Rice for a live drawing performance capturing memories through gesture and sound.

In this live performance, artist Mollie Rice will be in the gallery space receiving people to share their memories and stories of a Lunar New Year celebration or a tradition or ritual significant to them.

As a visitor tells their memory, Mollie will listen and make a blind continuous line drawing, a visual recording of her ‘hearing’ of the memory.

Through these transmissions, the audience is invited to reflect with curiosity on the way people connect with each other and our experiences in the places we meet.

About the artist

Mollie Rice is an artist based in Sydney, with a Master of Fine Arts from UNSW Art and Design. She was the recipient of an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship.

Rice works across site and studio exploring ideas of person, place and experience through drawing and the critical practice of listening. She has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions and has been a finalist in art prizes such as the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing, Hazelhurst Works on Paper Prize, JADA Drawing prize and the Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award. Her work has been acquired by the Macquarie Group Collection, Wangaratta Art Gallery and private collections in Australia and Internationally.
