Work your brain, have fun and meet new people at our 2-day cryptic crossword workshop for all levels.


This is a Seniors Festival event.

One ticket covers entry to both sessions. You must be available to attend both sessions.

  • Session 1: Saturday 7 March, 2pm to 4pm.
  • Session 2: Saturday 14 March, 2pm to 4pm.

Do you have a penchant for puzzles? Do you go wild for wordplay? Would you like to crack codes with fun folk? Then this is the workshop for you! Across 2 Saturdays, you’ll join expert cryptic crossword guru, Ralph Penglis, who will teach you the tips and tricks to solve any cryptic crossword with ease.

Great for complete novices or those who want to brush up on their skills, the 2-day workshop will cover the following:

  • Understanding cryptic crossword clues, breaking down the lingo and discovering the hidden meanings.
  • Cracking the code and recognising wordplay, hidden answers and tricky devices.
  • Applying solving strategies using your new tips and tricks for improving your crossword-solving skills.

Note: Doors open at 1:30pm for a 2pm start. Please remember to bring some paper, a pen and a water bottle.

About Ralph Penglis

Ralph Penglis is a highly regarded cryptic crossword expert based in Sydney. He has spent many years helping puzzlers of all ages understand and solve cryptic crosswords, and is well known for his friendly, easy-to-follow workshops held in libraries and community centres across Sydney and NSW.
