Since it’s first vintage of Semillon in 1950,it has become regarded as a benchmark for Australian white wine in both domestic and International acceptance.The Lovedale Vineyard has played a vital role in the success and reputation of the Hunter region and represents an important connection with the past.The wine produced wondrously articulates the concept of “Terroir” - that complexity and nuance of vineyard site,landscape, climate and winemaker” Phil RyanA﻿bout Phil Ryan:Phil has completed 35 consecutive vintages in his role as Chief Winemaker for Mount Pleasant prior to retirement and now assisting as our Ambassador.He Joined the Wine Industry in 1965 as a 19yo Trainee Chemist with McWilliams Wines.His first job was to analyse and record the chemical analysis of numerous boxes of soil samples taken from the Lovedale Vineyard in 1965.A bit of a messy job(that no other staff wanted!),but began a now 58 year association and love affair with the vineyard.Then followed Bachelor of Science (Applied Chemistry),and Bachelor of Science (Viticulture and Wine Science).In 2006 awarded the prestigious Graham Gregory Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to NSW Wine Industry.In 2009,inducted as Living Legend of Hunter Valley Wine Industry.In1987 - 2006 Office Holder and Board Member of HVVA,now the HVWTA.In 1988,we planted our own Family vineyard (Ryan Estate),the grapes from which went to Mount Pleasant.In 1978 Appointed Chief Winemaker and General M anager of Mount Pleasant following Brian Walsh and Maurice O’Shea.He had the privilege of being custodian of historic and iconic vineyards dating back to the 1880 Old Hill,1921 Old Paddock,1921 Pinot Noir vineyards as well as the 1946 Lovedale and Rosehill vineyards.During this time,not only involved in the Hunter classics Semillon,Shiraz and Pinot noir but the introduction of Chardonnay to the Hunter Valley and Australia .”
