About this event

Self-Editing Your Manuscript: Stage 2. Copy editing, dialogue, punctuation, style guides and dictionaries

Date: Sunday September 29

Time: 1- 4pm

About the workshop:

Are you unsure whether your sentences need a comma or a full stop? Do you want to know how to use a semicolon effectively? And what’s the deal with dialogue tags and punctuation?

Delve into the nitty gritty elements of language, grammar and punctuation to help improve your writing style when self-editing.

Ideal for writers with a completed manuscript who have already engaged in structural-level self-editing or those who struggle with style and clarity in their narrative writing.

About Jess:

Jess Gately is a freelance editor and publishing professional with a particular interest in speculative fiction. She is the President of Editors WA, sits on the board for Night Parrot Press, and has been a judge for the Aurealis Awards since 2019. Jess is a casual academic at Curtin University in the Professional Writing and Publishing major, and her Masters project looked at the editorial approach to fictional languages in sci-fi and fantasy. Jess is passionate about the power of language and stories to connect people and change the world.
