Description

Sedition and the Power Foundation Institute for art and visual culture presents

Hard Blues

A night of music featuring Mangrove Boogie Kings, Dog Trumpet and Uncle Bob's Band.

In the days before punk rock, Sydney developed its own version of raw, unbridled passionate blues rock from Whitty's Wine Bar to Frenches' Tavern to the Cell Block Theatre, these blueswailing groups tore it up. The Mangrove Boogie Kings started in the swamp back in 1974 and Warren Nunn has kept the flame alive ever since. Uncle Bob's Band was for a time the best band in Sydney, combining R&B and gypsy swing with bluegrass and other stuff. They were formed out of the ashes of the original Arts Factory and burned brightly until the 80s. The band recently reformed although Bob McGowan has gone on to his reward. They finally made their debut album. As whimsical and groovy as ever, Uncle Bob's Band will delight you at the Cell Block. Also on the bill is the great Dog Trumpet - heirs to this roots tradition. Reg Mombassa and his brother Pete will return to where it all started for them with the Mentals. The inimitable Jay Katz will MC and dive deep into his archive.
