Event description

Description

SDNOW is a three-day conference about design, strategy, ethics, and futures. We want to push the boundaries of Service Design, Strategic Design, Speculative Design, and other emerging practices – calling on speakers to bring subversive thinking, new paradigms, and critical approaches that define how these practices grow.

The 2019 conference is being held between 14-16 November at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia – supported by their Master of Design Futures program.

We want to create a platform for practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region, rebalancing euro-centric design practices with meaningful stories and thought leadership from our local contexts. We're doing this through partnerships with communities and collectives across the region – assisting each other through knowledge sharing, speaker support, and collaborative projects.

There are five themes moving through the 2019 conference, which respond to the shifts, problem spaces, and discourses playing out across our society: Ethical Practice, Capable Business, Designing Designers, Subversive Design, and Future Places. All speakers, facilitators, artists, and curators are asked to present along one of these themes.

We’re purpose and experience-led, because these are mutually uplifting things, with practices that respond (in small ways) to societal challenges around systemic inequity and the age of the Anthropocene.

Our program for 2019 will be released over the coming months, and will be updated here with each release.

If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at hello@sdnow.co.
