School Holidays: Let's Make Comics! (7 - 12 years)

Bring your story ideas to life through the art of comic book writing!

This introduction to comic book storytelling is designed to engage young creators of any experience level. It doesn’t matter if you are new to comics or already love them, this session gets you drawing within minutes!

Through hands on examples, you will learn how comics work, the power of combining words and pictures, as well as the tools available to the comic book creator. Then you will unleash your newfound skills through scripting and drawing your own one-page comic.

You will learn:

· What makes a comic a comic

· How sequencing images changes their meaning

· How to identify panel gutters and their storytelling function

· Basic story structure

· How to write and draw a simple one-page comic script

About the Facilitator:

Christof Bogacs is a comic book and video game writer based in Sydney. His body of work is largely concerned with examining identity. His debut graphic novel ‘Under Kingdom’, a middle grade fantasy-comedy with an emphasis on non-violent problem solving, was released in April 2023 through Dark Horse Comics. It was listed by The Mary Sue as one of the best Graphic Novels of 2023. ‘Rick and Morty presents: Brawlher’, his first licensed work, was published by Oni Press in April, 2024. His short comics have been published by Image comics and in the Ringo Award Nominated ‘Dead Beats’ anthology from AWBW as well as the Eisner award winning ‘PanelXPanel’ magazine.
