SCCA Seminar Series: Speaker Kalinga Seneviratne & the Myth of Free Media

Drawing from his recent book Myth of 'Free Media’ and Fake News in the Post-Truth Era, this talk will present the provocation that the Libertarian media function theory is challenged in the current communication environment, and democracy and human rights are undermined as a result. The talk introduces the audience to a consideration of mindful communication for sustainable development, a project involving a team of Asian Communication scholars trying to introduce training programs to change an adversarial reporting culture to one that is more cooperative and harmony-oriented communications (journalism).
