Overview

The WA Made Film Festival’s Saturday Night Short Film Showcase delivers a punchy mix of bold, unsettling and emotionally charged stories.

From dark fantasy animation and tense family drama to twisted crime tales, AI-fuelled loneliness and raw explorations of faith, addiction and mental health, these short films dive headfirst into the human condition. All brought to life by daring Western Australian filmmakers unafraid to push boundaries.

  • Trading Cards

An enigmatic man journeys back in time to find his younger self, seemingly to revisit the nostalgia of trading cards. An exploration of identity, mental health and the erosion of childhood innocence, Trading Cards is a dark fantasy animated film about the weight of living with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

  • Without White Clovers

A young man fears for his older brother’s life after he randomly texts him that he loves him.

  • E-Mum

Emma, a lonely woman, receives an AI child from her estranged mother. As their fragile bond grows, she must face the blurred line between real love and programmed affection. E-Mum is a haunting exploration of love, longing, and the silent heartbreak of loving something that cannot love you back.

  • The Skeleton Tree

After her mother’s funeral, young Melody must hold onto her mother’s memory and deal with the family tensions, brought about by the return of her mother’s twin and the dispassionate clearance of her mother’s possessions. Will Melody be the one to console this seemingly broken family?

  • Criminal Helpline

Criminal Helpline follows a disillusioned operator working for an underground call center that provides guidance to criminals in distress. As he fields calls ranging from drug deals to corpse disposal, his cynical humor masks a growing dissatisfaction with his lifestyle.

  • Saved

A tormented atheist gives God one chance to prove His existence—through an unthinkable act.

  • A Fistful of Glass

When a crew of bikies discover a rat may be hiding amongst them, they turn to more deadly ways of finding him out.

  • Tryptophan

A woman and her new partner attempt to help her ex-partner and his best friend deal with addition, testing the limits of forgiveness and resilience as they steer him on the painful path to recovery.
