About this event

SAPOL Road Safety Centre - A Guide To Obtaining Your Motorcycle Licence Road Safety Session

Despite a steady decline in the number of lives lost on South Australian roads over the past decade, motorcycle riders continue to be over represented in road trauma statistics. Obtaining a licence is a very exciting time for riders and it is important that they are aware of licence conditions and road rules. This session is a must for people obtaining their motorcycle learner’s permit.

In 2022, 13 motorcyclists lost their lives on South Australian roads. There were 144 motorcyclists and 7 pillion passengers who received serious injuries and 449 motorcyclists and 21 pillion passengers who were injured as a result of a crash.

A guide to obtaining your motorcycle licence is designed for those who are wanting to or have just obtained their motorcycle learner’s permit. The session is delivered by police officers, including a member from SAPOL’s State Traffic Enforcement Unit (motorcycle traffic officer) at SAPOL’s Road Safety Centre.

A guide to obtaining your motorcycle licence road safety session includes the following topics:

• the requirements for applying for a motorcycle licence

• conditions associated with a learner’s permit and other motorcycle classes

• the Fatal Five causes of road trauma on South Australian roads

• graduated licencing scheme

• protective riding gear

• motorcycle maintenance

• lane filtering

• choices, risks and consequences

• Personal Property Securities Register · reporting to police.
