Thinking about a future in creative media or tech?

This October school holidays, SAE University College Adelaide is opening its doors for Create for a Day: a one-day, hands-on experience where you’ll step into the studio, lab or production space and start creating.

Choose from:

  • Animation
  • Audio
  • Computer Science
  • Film
  • Games
  • VFX

Create for a Day lets you skip the textbooks and jump straight into building, recording, designing, coding or filming, all guided by lecturers who work in the industry.

By the end of the day, you’ll walk away with your own finished project and a certificate of participation, plus a clearer idea of what studying at SAE is really like and where your skills could take you in the future.


The important stuff:

  • Open to students in Years 10-12 and young creatives up to age 21
  • All workshops run at the same time, so choose your interest area wisely
  • Cost: $25 per student, including lunch
  • Spaces are strictly limited – secure your spot today!

ANIMATION

Bring characters and ideas to life. Explore core animation techniques and learn how movement and storytelling work together on screen.


AUDIO STUDIO PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES

Step into our professional studios and learn how sound is recorded, edited and mixed. Capture live audio and shape it into a finished production.


COMPUTER SCIENCE

Explore the fundamentals of programming and technical problem-solving as you discover how developers build apps, games and digital systems using real industry tools.


FILM

From planning to production, experience what it takes to bring a story to the screen. Learn camera techniques and work as a team to create your own scene.


GAMES

Explore how games are designed and developed. Experiment with real-time engines and core gameplay mechanics to prototype your own interactive concept.


VFX

Discover how visual effects shape film, TV and games. Experiment with compositing and real-time tools used in professional productions.

FAQs:

How does the schedule work?

Attendees will arrive before 10 am and spend the day in the classroom in their field of choice. Lunch will be provided on campus and at the end of the day students will go back home.

No accommodation is provided in the cost of the ticket.

Lunch will be provided in the cost. Please advise of any dietary requirements within event questions when purchasing. Or BYO if you are concerned. There are fridges on site.

What is the main purpose of this event?

This is not an Open Day. SAE Create for a Day is a one-day workshop event, where students get the chance to try equipment and work on real projects, in order to assist with their career decision making. Attendees spend their day in the classroom, working with lecturers and industry professionals, to experience what student life is like at SAE.

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

Yes - Due to the level of workshop content, this event is open to school students in years 10 and above - up to age 21.



What are my transport options for getting to the event at SAE Adelaide campus?

Arriving by Car

Parking: there is very limited parking available around the Adelaide campus. We recommend choosing public transport or using the paid parking located behind the campus.

The closest bus stops are U2 Victoria Square North West Side 4-minute walk to campus), V1 King William Street West Side (4-minute walk to campus), D3 Grote Street North Side (4-minute walk to campus). The closest train station is Adelaide Central and the tram stop is Victoria Square.

What can I bring to the event?

We recommend bringing along a notebook and pen, a water bottle, a jumper or warm clothing for air-conditioned rooms, and any other items that you will need for the day (e.g. medications).

W e do cater for Dietary requirements. In case of concern, bring along some extra snacks.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please have your printed ticket or email version available for the reception team upon arrival, as proof of your purchase.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

All tickets are non-refundable. Spaces are very limited due to the popularity of these events, and we like to ensure that no one misses out on the opportunity.

If the event is cancelled in unforeseen circumstances, full refunds will be issued to ticket holders.

1. Change of Mind

Sorry, we are unable to provide refunds for change of mind.

2. Event Cancellation

In the unlikely event that Create for a Day Workshops are cancelled, participants will be notified and a full refund will be provided. In this event, the organiser will contact you to process your refund within one week of the event cancellation. Refunds will be processed back to the same card originally used to make the purchase.

3. Transfer to a Different Workshop

We understand that it can be difficult to decide which of our exciting workshops to attend. If you wish for your ticket to be transferred to a different workshop, at the same campus, please contact the organiser on the email above. Ticket transfers from one workshop to another can only be made if places remain. The organiser reserves the right to deny a ticket transfer.
