Event description

Description

The brightest talents of the Filipino-Australian community come together in one special concert to thank a nation.

Rise Up: A Thanksgiving Concert aims to reunite those who raised funds in November 2013 to support those who were affected by Supertyphoon Haiyan in the Philippines, one of the worst storms recorded in history.

Fasika Ayallew, The Voice Australia Finalist, will make a feature appearance, alongside the most recognisable names in the Filipino-Australian entertainment circuit: Lillian de los Reyes (the Filipino community's Shirley Bassey), Brian Lorenz (ACE Awards) and Marcus Rivera (The Engineer, Miss Saigon).

Also part of the amazing ensemble are mother-and-daughter talent June Young and Trinity Young, Robyn Russell, Tina Bangel and the One Voice Kids, Jersay Delaney, Dong Labayo, Emerson Tuazon and emerging trio, Herizon.

“Australia dug deep into its pockets during the storm and we wanted to show our gratitude (called 'utang na loob' in Filipino) and say that five years on, we haven’t forgotten Australia's generosity,” said Michelle Baltazar, one of the concert organisers and founder of social media awareness platform, Help After Haiyan.

Baltazar and fellow volunteer Marcus Rivera visited Tacloban in April this year to reconnect with Help After Haiyan supporters there, including Tacloban-based photographer Bobbie Alota.

“We visited several of the sites worst hit by the supertyphoon and that’s when we found out that the locals would like to see more livelihood programs,” said Rivera.

“They don’t want to rely on the government or foreign aid forever. They want to make a living,” he added.

Proceeds from the show, with tickets only $20, will go towards rebuilding programs in Tacloban City.

"Filipinos are known around the world for their musical talents. What better way to say thanks than with our gift for singing," said Rivera.

The concert will be held on Sunday, November 4 at the 800-people capacity Diamond Showroom at Blacktown Workers in Sydney. Doors open 4pm and the show starts at 5pm.

For ticket or sponsorship enquiries, contact Marcus Rivera on 0423668829.
