Event description

Description

The Christchurch Town Hall, opened in 1972 and is Christchurch’s premier performing arts centre. It is located in the central city on the banks of the Avon River overlooking Victoria Square and until demolition was situated opposite the Christchurch Convention Centre.

Due to significant damage sustained during the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake from liquefaction and the related lateral spreading of the ground towards the Avon River the Town Hall was closed.

On 11 June 2015 confirmation was given by the Christchurch City Council on the decision for the repairs of the Christchurch town hall to go forward. Work started in November 2015 with the foundations which will be replaced and 1100 new concrete columns will be installed into the ground to help support the building as well as providing stabilisation in the event of future earthquakes. Work will also be done to make improvements on the original design of the town hall, for example, the James Hay theatre and the main auditorium as well as the restaurant and functions room will have previous issues fixed and create a modern, world-class venue that can be enjoyed for many years to come.

You will be required to bring your own PPE (hard hat, high-vis vest & steel cap boots)

Join us afterwards at the BOG Irish Pub for end of year social drinks. (50 Victoria St, Christchurch Central, Christchurch 8013, New Zealand)
