The Retail and Foodservice Workshops have been developed in conjunction with ShopAbilitya team of MCG senior executives with extensive industry experience.Peter and John have an intimate knowledge of the trading dynamics and challenges that SME’s are presently exposed to,as well as the history behind many of the issues confronting the industry today:

John Day has over 40 years of General Management experience. John’s expertise covers all channels including Grocery, Convenience, General Route, Distributors, Institutional and Catering across a broad range of categories.

Peter Huskins has over 35 years of experience at Board and senior executive level with major Retailers both here and overseas, and has served as VP of the Retail Traders Association of Victoria, and also writes for Retail World Magazine

The morning session focussing on Retail Readiness will be facilitated by Peter and will cover such areas as:

  • An overview of the Grocery Market
  • How retailers make money, KPI’s
  • Point Of Purchase drivers
  • Category development
  • NPD for market applicability
  • Research - insights and Implications
  • Business planning
  • Product and Category SWOT
  • UBF and GS1
  • Grocery Code of Conduct

The Foodservice Readiness session in the afternoon will be facilitated by John, and will cover such areas as:

  • An overview of the Foodservice Market
  • What are key drivers for a Foodservice Customer
  • Segmentation of the Foodservice Channels
  • Roles of Buying Groups
  • Distributor vs. End User relationships
  • Importance of tailoring Product and Delivery solutions by Channel
  • Cost and Margin considerations
  • Importance of relationships and persistence

 

Companies will be provided with Information and tools to help them identify where they currently sit on the retail and food service readiness matrix, understand the KPIs of their buyers, and how to price for profit. They will also learn about the market audit process, how to identify and communicate their Unique Selling Proposition and better prepare for buyer meetings.

Case studies, exercises and resources will be workshopped to enable participants to develop tangible retail and food service specific strategies and tactics. Participants will be expected to complete a brief readiness questionnaire prior to attending the program.
