SECASA is dedicated to providing professional training for individuals interested in acquiring skills and insights into working with individuals of all genders who have experienced sexual assault.

Our facilitators are experienced social workers and counsellors, who draw from their practical experience working with victim/survivors of sexual assault, through a trauma informed and intersectional feminist lens.

Agenda:

  • Define sexual violence and understand the prevalence of sexual violence, including developing a comprehensive understanding of affirmative consent.
  • Understand structural factors and gendered drivers of violence agaist women, and actively challenge common myths and victim-blaming relating to sexual assault .
  • Understand the impacts of sexual violence on victim-survivors,explore barriers to disclosure and the importance of creating a safe space
  • Respond effectively to disclosures of sexual violence, utilising a trauma informed framework
  • Identify referral pathways for support & counselling
  • Learn basic grounding and self-care techniques to support victim/survivors once they have made a disclosure
  • The importance of self-care for practitioners

The duration of the training is 3.5 hours.

The training room is located on the ground floor . Please report to reception on arrival.

Free parking is available for the duration of the training.

A coffee van will be available for morning tea to purchase your coffee at about 10.30 am. Light refreshments will be provided.
