About this event

Join us at the Fairmont Resort in Leura, NSW on Saturday, 11 & Sunday, 12 February, 2023 for an inspiring, energising weekend of experience sharing, networking and learning about strengthening community resilience.

This conference is specifically designed for Blue Mountains residents, business owners, community advocates, leaders, associations and groups who are currently navigating the complex processes of response, recovery and resilience cycles in their communities.

This is a free, one off event and you are welcome to come for just one, or both days.

The weekend will feature the keynote speakers of Carol Hopkins, a long-time Mallacoota resident and Chairperson of MADRA, the town's recovery association and Elly Bird, a Councillor on Lismore City Council and the Executive Director of Resilient Lismore, a community organisation leading recovery efforts in the Northern Rivers after the region’s worst disaster in living memory.

Both Carol and Elly will share their practical knowledge and lived experience of spearheading community-led recovery in their unique communities across multiple disaster events.

The weekend will also feature Dr Kate Brady and Phoebe Quinn, researchers from the University of Melbourne who will introduce you to the state resilience award winning model "Recovery Capitals" to help guide your community to become more resilient.

The Recovery Capitals (ReCap) training is based on a framework of seven ‘recovery capitals’ – natural, social, financial, cultural, political, built and human – and the connections between them. Every community is different and ReCap is an organic model which supports strengths-based, holistic and inclusive recovery approaches which can be moulded and shaped to suit your unique community.

ReCap was joint-winner of the 2021 Resilient Australia National Mental Health and Wellbeing Award.

For more information about Recovery Capitals click here.

The workshop will also be an opportunity to make and strengthen connections, to help us work together in the face of disasters.

The conference will include a catered lunch and morning and afternoon tea. If you have any special dietary requirements, please indicate these when you register for the event.

This workshop is part of the Resilient Villages project, which aims to support community-led, grass-roots resilience initiatives in the Blue Mountains.

We look forward to seeing you in February!
