Friday, Mar 13, 2026 from 3 pm to 11:30 pm GMT
Overview

Two-night retreats for writers in a manor house in one of the loveliest counties in England, offering practical advice and mentoring.

Writers’ retreat in rural Herefordshire - March 13th - 15th 2026

Offering practical advice, inspiration, encouragement and empathy. Writers Inc is hosted at the home of Jane Sanderson and Brian Viner who, as published authors of 14 books between them, will use their own experience to steer your writing ambitions and help you find your voice. Our retreat is for anyone who believes they have a book in them, but doesn’t necessarily know how to go about it. Anyone who has started a book, but lost the self-belief or energy to finish it. Or anyone who has been so inspired by reading that they want to learn more about the writing process.

You’ll leave Writers Inc at Docklow Manor with many new insights on how to become a better, more confident writer, and a greater understanding of what it takes not just to start a book, but also to finish one.

We hope, too, that our guests will leave feeling they’ve found new friends – fellow travellers on their writing journey.

Is Writers Inc for me?

Jane Sanderson is the author of six novels, including the highly-acclaimed Mix Tape, which was adapted into a TV drama on BBC2 (and can still be seen on iPlayer, if you haven’t watched it already.) The show has brought a whole new wave of readers to her novel, which tells the story of teenage love, lost and then found again after thirty years have passed, all thanks to the power of music. It’s rare for a novelist to see their own work of imagination re-told on screen, and Mix Tape has undoubtedly been Jane’s greatest success, but her five other novels – more of which later – are just as close to her heart.

Brian has been a professional writer for almost 40 years. He has written eight non-fiction books. But his bread and butter has always been journalism. His work has appeared in numerous national newspapers including the Sunday Times, the Sunday Telegraph, the Observer, the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Mail on Sunday, the Independent (where his interrogations of famous sporting stars ran for many years) and the Daily Mail, where he has been chief film critic since 2013.
