About this event

Sculptors Queensland returns to Northshore for another year with their incredible Sculpture Exhibition. As a resident, you’re invited for an exclusive evening celebrating all things art.

Channel your inner artist in one of two workshops as you sip from a selection of wines, or hear directly from the artists as you observe their work and mingle with your neighbours over canapés.

Dress in your most colourful attire as the best dressed will be awarded with tickets to a Life Drawing class with Sculptors QLD at The Shed.

This event is ticketed with a $20 donation to Sculptors QLD. Your ticket will put you in the draw to win the Lucky Door Prize which is a sculpture by Russel Solomon. See below for details.

Ticket sales close Wednesday, October 4.

The below workshops have limited spaces, so we recommend booking as soon as possible. Please do note, that you do not need to register for a workshop in order to attend the event.

Workshop 1

Fantasy Creature Sculpture – Air-drying Clay over wire armature

4:30pm - 6:30pm

Participants are encouraged to imagine a small creature that could be extinct or endangered. This creature could be a composite of a number of Australian wildlife (think platypus with its bill, fur, webbed feet, paddle tail etc). Imagine this creature as rare and unusual. Does it have wings, tail, how many legs/ feet and what sort, beak, bill, ears, fur, feathers, scales etc. Anything goes! Does it fly, swim, run, climb, etc. or all of these?

Participants will create an armature from balled-up alfoil for the body and soft aluminium wire for appendages. This will then be covered with Air-drying clay and the fantasy creature modelled. By the end of the session the piece should be dry enough to take home. After 24-48 hrs the fully dried sculpture can be sanded if desired and painted, or left as is.

Workshop 2

Wire Sculpture Creation

4:30pm - 6:30pm

Workshop to be presented and led by wire sculptor Russell Solomon.

Participants will learn the basic principles of smooth, cold bending of wire through the process of creating a hanging mobile.

The concept of three-dimensional drawing with wire will be explored through making fish and other sea creatures to hang on the mobile.

Lucky Door Prize

“Magpie” by Russel Solomon.

Magpies are a part of nature to us and we are part of nature to them.

I love when seeing a magpie in my front yard, they seem to regard us inquisitively.

I wish I could speak “Magpie”
