Researchers and Social Media 1: Getting Started
Learn the basics of social media engagement and why researchers may want to build their digital profiles.
Being savvy with social media is a desired (and increasingly expected) aspect of research engagement and research profile establishment. Using social media effectively can cultivate a community around your research and future work. It can lead to approaches from media, industry, and potential collaborators; and - yes - it can also boost your citations if used well!
This first workshop in the "Researchers and social media" series covers:
> Why researchers may find social media valuable,
> The basics for setting up on digital profile platforms,
> The basics of what to do once you create an account, and
> the challenges of using social media.
NOTE: This workshop presumes no working knowledge of social media.
Facilitator: Dr Tseen Khoo is an Associate Professor, Researcher Development (EMCR), with the Researcher Development Academy, Deakin University. She researches in the field of critical university studies and has published on early career researcher experiences, digital academic identities, and racial diversity issues.
**Please note this is for Deakin University researchers only.
