Session times: 10.00am – 12.00pm / 12.30pm – 2.30pm
Contact us in advance on learning@slq.qld.gov.au for weekend visit options or if your group has special needs. Choose one of the following group sessions.
Research experience
35 persons max (including adults) per two-hour session
Recommended for Years 7-12
This experience is designed for school groups seeking to build information literacy by blending in-school preparation with onsite research. Teachers, please supply a topic for research or an assignment question when booking. A Librarian will provide search terms and suggested resources for students to use. Once onsite the group is greeted by a volunteer who leads the way to our dedicated study area where students explore their topic using State Library’s Catalogue and online resources. Short how-to videos are available to provide students with basic search skills. To complete research, students will need to bring their own devices.
Independent study
70 persons max (including adults) per two-hour session
Recommended for Years 5 - 12
If your group wishes to study independently, book our school area on level 3 including large tables for study and quiet instruction, and access to the State Reference library. There is an option to book an additional 35 attendees to study on level 2 . Please note that dedicated librarian assistance is not provided with this booking (if you require help with assessment topics or preparation, please book a Research Experience).
To make the most of your visit we encourage students and teachers to become members prior to your visit. Please use a residential Queensland address, not the school address, when registering. Membership is free and enables students to search the catalogue and place physical items on hold, ready to collect and use during their time onsite.
