Involving Aboriginal People in Research

28 June 2019

Seminar Synopsis:

Are you currently planning or running a research project that could involve Aboriginal people? Unsure of how to begin or reach the community?

This seminar will provide an overview of important considerations for when engaging with Aboriginal people in research, including; Ethical considerations, understanding cultural differences, and the importance of community consultation.

Presenters:

Dr Michael Wright

Dr Wright is a Yuat Nyoongar man whose family is from the Moora and New Norcia region of WA, north of Perth. He is currently an Early Career Research Fellow with Curtin University, based at School of Occupational Therapy, Social Work, and Speech Pathology. He has worked across the spectrum of health as a manager, social work practitioner, and policy officer. Dr Wright has extensive experience as a researcher in Aboriginal health and mental health.

Head of Aboriginal Research, Telethon Kids Institute and leads the Kulunga Aboriginal Research Development Unit (KARDU).
