About this session:

What happens in cases of academic misconduct? How do you negotiate joint authorship with graduate researchers and colleagues? What is self-plagiarism and how can you avoid it? What can be done when things don't appear to be going right?

In contemporary academia, researchers are expected to uphold strong standards of academic integrity. From instances of plagiarism or dishonesty, through to negotiating authorship in jointly written work, the academic writing and publishing landscape can pose tricky questions for new and established researchers alike.

As part of Academic Writing Month, the Research Education and Development (RED) team and the Ethics and Integrity team are collaborating to host a Research Integrity Forum on Authorship and Publishing. This forum presents an opportunity for active and engaged discussion around publishing, authorship and scholarly attribution.

Why should I attend?

Most researchers will come across one or more of the questions above in their work, and this forum will provide a space for reflecting on our individual and collective approaches to academic integrity. It will be a chance to hear from some of the university’s research leaders, including DVC (Research) Professor Keith Nugent, Research Integrity Advisors, and a panel of senior academics from across the university.

Who should attend?

This session is open to all researchers, including higher degree research candidates.

The forum will run for 90 minutes, followed by afternoon tea in the foyer.
