About this event

  • 2 hours

In the past in Wanneroo, families often didn’t have much money to spare and with shops far away they reused and repurposed what they had making useful items out of objects you would usually throw away this was called ‘Making do’. Hessian feed sacks were turned into blankets and used to make Coolgardie Safes (Fridges); clothing was patched, restitched for other children and gradually became rags for cleaning; kerosene tins were used for storage and carrying containers. Children made their own toys from items around the house. People bartered and shared with one another.

This year, as part of WA's ban on single-use plastics, plastic fruit and vegetable produce bags will be phased out. Join us for a two-hour workshop where you'll be guided by an experienced sewing facilitator to create useful and unique alternatives using repurposed curtain netting. Sewing machines and materials will be provided.
