Refugee Week Launch Melbourne: Festival of Welcome

The Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) is the national umbrella body in Australia for refugees and people seeking asylum and those who support them. We have around 200 organisational and over 1,000 individual members. We are a nonprofit organisation which is completely independent of government. RCOA's core aim is to promote the development of humane, lawful and constructive policies towards refugees and asylum seekers by Australian and other governments and their communities.

Refugee Council of Australia

The Refugee Council of Australia, in partnership with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, AMES Australia, Jesuit Social Services, City of Melbourne and Wyndham CEC, bring you the 2016 Melbourne Refugee Week Launch!
Come and join us in celebrating the amazing contributions that refugees make to our communities. With the federal election around the corner, and the offshore processing regime on the brink of collapse, we think it is more important than ever that the message gets heard - Australians support a fairer approach to people seeking asylum.
The wonderful Osamah Sami and Santilla Chingaipe (SBS) will MC an exciting line-up of live music and entertainment from the likes of The Smith Street Band, Felix Riebl (of The Cat Empire), Tripod, Robot Child (feat. Waleed Aly), Ajak Kwai, Abe Nouk, The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra; the Burundian Drummers, Voices without Borders and the Chin Choir. There will also be inspirational speakers from refugee backgrounds, face painting, and a delicious street food market.
It is a free event, which is open for all to attend. However, if you would like to contribute to the work of the Refugee Council of Australia in giving refugees a stronger voice, please consider making a donation for your ticket. Please RSVP using the 'tickets' button above so that we can plan according to numbers attending.
