Description

This dynamic educational session is designed for primary care health professionals working with people of refugee background. The screening and management of malaria, tuberculosis (TB) and syphilis will be presented by expert speakers. Syphilis in pregnancy will also be discussed. Perspectives from different refugee communities will be shared.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss considerations related to caring for patients from a refugee background with or at risk of malaria, syphilis or TB

  • Describe the process for the effective delivery of preventive health care to patients when there is cultural and/or linguistic difference.

  • Identify key resources and services available to support patients and families from refugee backgrounds with or at risk of malaria, syphilis or TB

  • Explain the principles that underpin the delivery of culturally safe care within the infectious diseases context
