Come along for a night of mangrove talks and beautiful mangrove art!
Hear specialist talks from Dr. Norm Duke about mangrove ecology and how citizen scientists are monitoring these living coastal kidneys. Participate in a discussion about the threats facing mangrove forests in the region and what we can do to help them.
Enjoy an evening art exhibition with a variety of mangrove inspired artworks from talented artists of the region. Feature artists include local Julie McEnerny, and NSW based Deidre Bean - as top Australian artists and illustrators of mangroves. Some artworks will also be for sale on the night.
Deirdre’s work will include an illustration of the critically endangered mangrove species Bruguiera hainesii which was found in Cairns earlier in the year, never before recorded in Australia (see photograph above by Norm Duke).
All welcome! Help us fuse science with art and celebrate the magnificence of our mangroves.
Drinks and nibbles provided.
If you’re an artist and have a mangrove related artwork you’d like to contribute email Bess Murphy for more information (details below).
