About this event

Reading Tails is an 8-week group program for primary-aged school children that utilises ‘Dog Assisted Education’ techniques to support reluctant readers by creating a comfortable space, working in short bursts of reading, providing incentives, allowing students to select their books, discussing the books being read, and making reading a social experience.

This small-group program is aimed at children aged 6 to 12.

The benefits of Reading Tails include:

  • Increased confidence while reading
  • Increased involvement in the library community
  • Gaining a better understanding of dogs
  • Added motivation to keep reading
  • Increased emotional wellbeing
  • Easing anxiety around learning difficulties.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. This program encourages literacy skill development in children who need additional support. See www.dss.gov.au for more information.

Booking is essential for this program.
