Welcome to Reading Buddies!
Reading Buddies is a one-on-one reading program for primary school aged children. Participants ‘borrow’ a senior from our community and read to them, one-on-one. Our seniors act as a non-judgmental, patient, encouraging listener, allowing children to build their reading confidence and fluency.
The reading buddy program is available for primary school-aged children who already have basic reading skills and would benefit from additional practice.
Sessions are free and run for 20 minutes: 4:00-4:20pm, 4:20-4:40pm, 4:40-5:00pm.
Children are encouraged to have selected a book before the reading session commences either from the library shelves, or brought along.
Seniors can also be borrowed for reading sessions to prepare for special events or speech days.
*It is important for parents to remain on the premises while the reading session takes place.
*We can’t guarantee that a child will be matched with the same volunteer each week.
