This two-part Carnatic music lecture-demonstration series is presented as the finalé to Karpahavalli’s Dīkṣitar 250 celebrations, reflecting on the music and legacy of Sri Muttusvāmi Dīkṣitar. Timed to coincide with the culmination of the Dīkṣitar 250 year and his birth anniversary, this curated series offers students and rasikas an opportunity for deeper engagement with one of Carnatic music’s most profound composer-saints.

About the Artist – Vidwan T.M. Krishna

Thodur Madabusi Krishna is one of the pre-eminent vocalists in the rigorous Karnatik tradition of India’s classical music. Trained under distinguished gurus B. Seetharama Sarma, Chengalpet Ranganathan and Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, he has come to occupy a markedly distinct place in the Karnatik universe for the stunning individuality of his renditions distinguished by inner luminosity and passionate intensity.

Beyond performance, Krishna is respected as a scholar and communicator of Carnatic music. In December 2025, as part of the 99th Annual Conference & Concerts at The Music Academy, Madras — widely regarded as one of South India’s most prestigious institutions for Carnatic scholarship and performance — he presented a lecture-demonstration on the music of Muthuswami Dīkṣitar, reflecting on compositional forms and aesthetic insights in celebration of the Dīkṣitar 250 commemorative year.

About the Artist – Vidwan R.K. Shriramkumar

R. K. Shriramkumar belongs to the eminent Rudrapatna family of Carnatic musicians. Trained by his grandfather R. K. Venkatarama Shastry and later by V. V. Subrahmanyam, his playing is marked by the lyrical gāyaki style and heart-warming renditions. He has accompanied legendary artists including M. S. Subbulakshmi, D. K. Pattammal and K. V. Narayanaswamy at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide. His honours include the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Award and the Nada Oli.

In January 2026, he was conferred the prestigious Sangīta Kalanidhi by The Music Academy, recognising his distinguished contributions to Carnatic music as a performer, scholar, and teacher. During the Dīkṣitar 250 commemorative year, Shriramkumar played a significant role in The Music Academy’s academic sessions dedicated to Muttusvāmi Dīkṣitar’s music. As part of the Music Academy’s Academic Sessions a series of lectures, demonstrations and discussions honouring Dīkṣitar’s musical legacy — he presented a focused lecture-demonstration on the Kamalamba Navavarana kritis, highlighting structural, aesthetic and interpretive aspects of these seminal works and their place in the Carnatic canon.
