About the Artist – Vidwan Praveen Sparsh

Praveen Sparsh is a multi-percussionist and music producer trained in mridangam under Guruvayur Dorai. He belongs to a distinguished lineage of percussionists, being the grandson of mridangam exponent Tanjore Upendran and the great-grandson of tavil exponent Valangaiman Shanmugasundaram Pillai.

One of today’s most sought-after mridangam artistes, Praveen Sparsh performs regularly with leading musicians including T. M. Krishna and Bombay Jayashree, and has toured extensively worldwide. His accolades include the Laya Ratna award and the Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music.

As a music producer and composer, he has created music for theatre and interdisciplinary works, most notably Kurukshetra by Gowri Ramnarayan, where he single-handedly performed on multiple percussion instruments alongside guitar and konnakol. His work spans collaborations with world-music ensembles and major festivals, and he curates innovative projects such as No’mad Projekt and Orisai.
