Enjoy popcorn and connect with fellow movie lovers at the Movie Club at Margaret Martin Library in Randwick.

Join us at the Margaret Martin Library in Randwick for a monthly Movie Club! Be treated to delicious popcorn and meet new friends while enjoying a great movie, followed by a discussion and review of the film over a cup of tea or coffee.

Dates: The Club meets on the third Friday of each month: 16/1, 20/2, 20/3, 17/4, 15/5, 19/6, 17/7, 21/8, 18/9, 16/10, 20/11 and 18/12, from 2.00-4.30pm. If participants miss 3 or more consecutive weeks without notifying staff, then they may forfeit their booking.


Movie Club Program 2026:

January 16: Maid in Manhattan (1hr 45mins, Comedy/Romance, 2002, PG) - The story of Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez), a single mother born and bred in the boroughs of New York City who works as a maid in a first-class Manhattan hotel. By a twist of fate and mistaken identity, Marisa meets Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes), a handsome heir to a political dynasty who believes that she is a guest at the hotel. Destiny throws the unlikely pair together for one night, but when Marisa’s true identity is revealed, the two find that they are worlds apart, even though the distance separating them is just a subway ride between Manhattan and the Bronx.

February 20: 13 Going on 30 (1hr 37 mins, Comedy, 2004, PG) - A delightful be-careful-what-you-wish-for romantic comedy starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. He blackmails an old acquaintance into carrying out the murder, but the carefully orchestrated set-up goes awry. Now Wendice must frantically scheme to outwit the police and avoid having his plot detected.

April 17: Punch-Drunk Love (1hr 35mins, Comedy/Romance, 2002, M) - Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) is a small business owner with seven sisters whose abuse has kept him alone and unable to fall in love. When a harmonium and a mysterious woman (Emily Watson) enter his life, his romantic journey begins.

May 15: The Last Showgirl (1hr 28 mins, Drama, 2024, M) - After 30 years as the face of a Las Vegas floor show, Shelly (Pamela Anderson) and her co-workers face an uncertain future when their stage manager reveals that their act has been cancelled. Supported by her brazen best friend, and with her career and identity on the line, Shelly must figure out what comes next—a daunting task when she is in her 50s, and the show has been her whole world. Feeling vulnerable, she tries to take control of her life and repair the relationship with her estranged daughter, who took a backseat to her showgirl family.

June 19: Green Fingers (1hr 25mins, Comedy, 2000, M) - Inmate Colin Briggs (Clive Owen) is introduced to gardening, and when the thriving prison garden attracts the attention of flamboyant gardening expert Georgina Woodhouse (Helen Mirren), she offers to sponsor the inmates in an upcoming flower show. At the prestigious Hampton Court Flower Show, Colin meets Georgina’s spirited daughter Primrose (Natasha Little), and a romance blooms amid the blossoms and second chances.

July 17: Jamaica Inn (1hr 39 mins, Classic/Thriller, 1939, PG) - Based on the novel by Daphne Du Maurier, a young woman discovers her uncle heads a gang of ship-wreckers and murderers under the secret patronage of the local squire. Her efforts to stop their wicked ways leads her down a path filled with murder and betrayal.

August 21: Hunt for the Wilderpeople (1hr 41 mins, Action/Adventure, 2016, PG) - Two rebels. One million hectares of untamed wilderness. The hunt is on. Ricky (Julian Dennison) is a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run with his grumpy foster uncle (Sam Neill) in the wild New Zealand bush. A national manhunt ensues and the two are forced to put aside their differences and work together to survive in this hilarious and heart-felt adventure.

September 18: The Teacher Who Promised the Sea: El maestro queprometió el mar (1hr 45 mins, World Cinema/Spanish, 2023, M) - Based on the true story of Antoni Benaiges as told in Francesc Escribano's novel, in The teacher who promised the sea, buried memories of the Spanish Civil War are unearthed as a woman searches for the remains of her grandfather's father and discovers the story of an idealistic young teacher from Tarragona.

October 16: The Colour Out of Space: Die Farbe (1hr 25mins, Horror/Thriller, 2010, MA15+) - Arkham, 1975: Jonathan Davis’s father has disappeared. His tracks lead to Germany, to the Swabian-Franconian Forest where he was stationed after the Second World War. Jonathan sets out to find him and bring him home, but deep in the woods he discovers a dark mystery from the past. Based on H.P. Lovecraft's short novel "The Colour Out of Space".

November 20: The One (1hr 27mins, Science Fiction/Fantasy, 2001, MA15+) - Parallel universes collide when a rogue agent assigned to monitor these universes begins eliminating versions of himself in each alternate reality. Assuming more energy and power with each version he destroys, he must finally confront the one man standing between himself and his ultimate goal…to be THE ONE. THE ONE stars Jet Li as both predator and prey in an innovative, action-packed sci-fi thriller.

December 18: Dear Christmas (1hr 27mins, Romance, 2020, PG) - Natalie Morgan is the host of a popular podcast, Holiday Love, which shares true stories of holiday romance with its listeners. While to the outside world and her listeners everywhere see Natalie is an expert on romance, she’s never truly experienced a romance of her own. As Natalie prepares to embark on a promotional tour for her new book, she stops back home to spend Christmas with her family where she unexpectedly begins to experience her own holiday romance as sparks ignite with local firefighter, Chris.
