Eden Unearthed: Art in the Gardens Events

Eden Unearthed: Art in the Gardens is an installation art exhibition that runs for 6 months from November at Eden Gardens in Macquarie Park, Sydney.  Throughout the exhibition, a series of workshops, talks and hospitality events will take place.

Australia is the second highest consumer of textiles per person in the world. Each Australian consumes an average of 27 kilograms of new clothing per year and disposes an average 23 kilograms of clothing to landfill each year, or 93 per cent of the textile waste we generate. These statistics have inspired this workshop.Nicole de Mestre creates an eclectic range of artistic works, all inspired by environmental concerns and linked through the use of recycled materials and found objects. Join her for a three hour workshop, where participants will learn to select, prepare and crochet unwanted fabric and yarns into bags or baskets. Scissors, fabric, yarn and a large crochet hook required-most of which will be provided. Some basic crochet knowledge useful, but not essential.Materials: Supplied, but bring along a bag of your own if you feel inclined. Also sharp scissors will be useful.Some dexterity is required for hand-sewing. Ages: 13+Bring yourself and some creativity. Everything else is supplied, including morning tea or coffee.
