Queensland’s new tree clearing laws
Event Information
Description
Koala numbers are in sharp decline in south east Queensland due to vegetation clearing and habitat loss. We have been wondering what the changes to tree-clearing laws will mean for the koala habitat in the Mackay region.
At our next meeting Adam Gilmour, Senior natural resource management officer at DNRME, will explain the impact the law will have on tree clearing that has been killing tens of millions of wild animals in our state each year. Adam will explain how the new vegetation laws work and the difference they will make to habitat retention.
Mark Thomas from the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) unit will also give a presentation on the importance and benefits of Qld Globe - an online tool that can be used to find a wealth of data from government records.
You’re welcome to join us for this important evening!
