Queensland Ballet is thrilled to be collaborating with NOOSA alive! for the eleventh time.

In 2024, Queensland Ballet's Jette Parker Young Artists and a number of Company dancers will perform two breathtaking works, including Papillon a world premiere by acclaimed Australian choreographer Jack Lister and Holberg Suite by Greg Horsman.

Holberg Suite is a formal classical ballet in structure, choreographed for Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2009 to Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite. The work explores the complexities of Grieg’s music in a manner that uncovers hidden nuances through speed and precision and showcases the strength and beauty of the dancers.

Queensland Ballet is excited to once again be a part of this highly anticipated festival in 2024.

About the Creatives

Jack Lister

Jack Lister is an Australian dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker. After graduating from The Australian Ballet School, Jack joined Queensland Ballet in 2014 and danced many featured roles within the vast classical and modern repertoire. After creating his first work in 2015, Jack quickly established a name as a respected emerging maker, recognised by The Australian’s national dance critic as “a young choreographer who is going places”. He has gone on to create works for Queensland Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Australasian Dance Collective, presented throughout Australia, United Kingdom, China and Germany to critical and audience acclaim. In collaboration with Director Ryan Renshaw, Jack’s film works have been screened globally at multiple prestigious film festivals, garnering numerous awards. In 2020, Jack joined the Australasian Dance Collective as a Company Artist and was appointed Associate Choreographer with Queensland Ballet, and in 2024, he was appointed the Associate Artistic Director of Australasian Dance Collective.

Greg Horsman

Greg began his training with Peter Dickinson in Geelong and completed his formal training under Anne Woolliams at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. He joined The Australian Ballet in 1982 and became Principal Artist in 1987. At The Australian Ballet, Greg performed all the classical repertoire, as well as many contemporary works, and worked with choreographers including Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Glen Tetley, Maurice Béjart and Jirí Kylián. He has been a Guest Principal Artist around the world dancing with the Mariinsky Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, Boston Ballet and Houston Ballet, in Rudolph Nureyev’s Farewell Tour of Australia, and the 6th and 7th World Ballet Festivals in Japan. Greg joined the English National Ballet in 1994 and created the roles of The Mad Hatter in Derek Deane’s Alice in Wonderland, the Prince in Michael Corder’s Cinderella and Drosselmeyer in Deane’s The Nutcracker. He also starred in Deane’s Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet and performed Romeo and Mercutio in Rudolph Nureyev’s Romeo and Juliet. In 1998 Greg was appointed Artistic Director of Ballet Central at London’s Central School of Ballet. In 2001 he became Ballet Master at Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds, and in 2003 returned to English National Ballet as Ballet Master and repetiteur. In 2006 Greg became Ballet Master at the Royal New Zealand Ballet. He has been a guest teacher and Guest Ballet Master at companies throughout the UK, Europe and Australia, including Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, La Scala Ballet and The Staatsballett Berlin. Greg has choreographed ballets for Ballet Central, English National Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet and Queensland Ballet. His classic production of The Sleeping Beauty was a box office success, and Queensland Ballet has also performed his critically acclaimed ballets Coppélia, La Bayadere, Verdi Variations, Glass Concerto and Never Stop Falling in Love. Greg joined Queensland Ballet in 2013 and is the Assistant Artistic Director

About the Queensland Ballet Jette Parker Young Artists

The Jette Parker Young Artist Program is an apprenticeship program which fosters the talents of gifted young dancers at the start of their professional careers. This Program allows dancers from Australia and around the world to access elite training designed to refine their technique and gain valuable industry knowledge before becoming company artists. Through performance opportunities and world-class mentoring, this introduction to a professional dance career allows dancers to soar in years to come. Jette Parker Young Artists often move seamlessly into Queensland Ballet as company artists, and other alumni have secured contracts with international and Australian ballet companies.
