Seminar Synopsis:

The use of qualitative research methods is becoming more popular in health either as the primary research method or as part of a mixed methods approach to investigating a health issue. This seminar covers the benefits of using qualitative research; some of the myths associated with the use of qualitative research; the types of qualitative methods; how data is collected and analysed; and, how the research prepares to use qualitative research to improve health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, Mental health/Mental Illness, Curtin University

Shirley has a wide range of experience conducting health research in the area of mental health using a mix of research designs. She is a registered nurse and a credentialed mental health nurse.

The Research Education Program (REP) is an open access resource provided by the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), Department of Research and is generously supported by the PCH Foundation. The Program provides valuable educational resources to support staff and students of any clinical discipline and level of experience to undertake high quality, meaningful research.

The Program includes the Research Skills Seminar Series, REDCap workshops and resources and the Clinical Audit Handbook.
