The Linear Fire Management field day is planned to review joint planning with QPWS to manage fuel loads along linear infrastructure.

About this event

Together with the Queensland Fire & Biodiversity Consortium, Powerlink Queensland is hosting a field day in the Mapleton National Park on 29 July 2021 to review Powerlinks joint planning with QPWS to manage fuel loads in the area. Joel James has been coordinating actions with stakeholders in the field and we would welcome your attendance and input on the day if you’re available and interested. Here’s some dot points we’re hoping to cover on the day:

  • Powerlink land strategy – longer term objectives
  • Joint planning with QPWS
  • University studies of the area
  • Powerlink land maintenance programs
  • QPWS planned burn programs
  • Property planning principals
  • Fire, Biodiversity and Electrical Safety
  • What does success look like?
  • General discussion

Representatives from Powerlink, Queensland Fire and Biodiversity Consortium, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Council, neighbouring landholders, Main Roads, HQPlantations, University of Sunshine Coast and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will be invited to the field day. The plan is to meet at the Mapleton Day Use Area around mid-morning and leave around noon.

COVID-19

  • Stay at home if unwell or have a cough, fever, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath.
  • Seek assistance if becoming unwell during the event (locate security, event officials or first aid)
  • Maintaining physical distancing requirements is the individuals responsibility
  • Hand sanitiser will be provided at the meeting point (Mapleton National Park Day Use Area)

  • Meeting Point: Mapleton National Park Day Use Area. The transmisions lines that will be the focus are 2km away, please bring 4wd or SUV due to unsealed roads and Carpool where possible and COVID-safe to limit traffic on narrow roads.

Will there be catering?

Light Morning Tea and Lunch of Sandwiches and Wraps. Juice and water included. Coffee and Tea will not be provided. Please bring a flask if you require coffee or tea.

Please let us know of any dietary requirements.

What should I bring?

Enclosed footwear, sun smart clothing, hat, sunscreen, water bottle. You will be walking 2km to the nearest powerline, so please ensure you have suitable footwear.
