Big bowel, big problem

Dr Joanne Dale MBBS FRACS

Colorectal and Laparoscopic General Surgeon, Brisbane

Dr Joanne Dale is a locally trained specialist colorectal and general surgeon who completed her Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Fellowship in General Surgery in Queensland in 2009. Dr Dale obtained Conjoint Committee accreditation for colonoscopy in 2009. Following this, she completed a further three years in post Fellowship Colorectal Surgery training. These full-time training positions included one year each at the Gold Coast University Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide and the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane.

Since 2011 Dr Dale has been a Consultant in Colorectal and General Surgery at the Mater Hospital Brisbane, Mater Private Hospital and Mater Mothers Hospital, treating both public and private patients. She has an interest in all aspects of colorectal surgery, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, endometriosis and anorectal problems (bleeding, haemorrhoids, fistula and fissures). Dr Dale aims to tailor patient treatment to the individual, to ensure that all patient concerns are addressed, and the best outcomes are achieved.

Dr Dale has a long standing interest in surgical education. She has been a Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland for a decade. In 2020, Dr Dale completed a Graduate Diploma in Surgical Education from the University of Melbourne. Her Masters thesis is on professional identity formation in junior doctors.
