Can architects amplify their voice in single detached housing by exploring opportunities in volume housing?
Reflecting on the success of The Small Homes Service, can architects be more involved in volume housing today, to impact more lives? What should the design outcome look like, given today’s challenges and opportunities? This floor talk discusses past precedents and investigates what an architects’ involvement in single detached volume housing could look like today.
We will begin with short presentations from Virginia Mannering of Monash University (Small Homes Service), Andy Wong of John Wardle Architects (proposal for Bushfire Homes Service 2009) , Matthew Hutton of Grimshaw (proposal for The Peak House for Nestd) and Glen Chamberlain of Chamberlain Architects (proposal for RUUM).
Presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with all presenters, Fooi-Ling Khoo of Architeam and moderated by Editor of Houses Magazine, Gemma Savio.
