Dementia Training Australia will run a free workshop about reframing dementia care: a wellness approach

The concept of helping people to live well with dementia may feel like an aspirational goal, particularly when they reside in a residential care facility. The narratives of problems, needs, risks and costs of care are endemic in the aged care sector and tend to overshadow the person’s experience of dementia and the things that are most important to them.

This workshop aims to reframe caring for people living with dementia from problem focussed thinking to a wellness approach. It outlines the strategies and strengths that all of us draw on in times of adversity to make the experience of living with illness understandable, manageable and meaningful. The workshop will also provide an overview of a team approach to understanding and responding to responsive behaviours.

Guide to excellence: we want to hear from experts like you about what this means

The Department of Health and Human Services has contracted La Trobe University to develop a guide to excellence for residential aged care. We want to hear from you, and would also like you to share stories of exemplary practices and care.
