Preparing the Matildas for International TournamentsGoing back to 1989 our expert panel of Steve Darby, Mara Watts, Mark Torcaso, Emily Husband and Mel Andreatta will provide detailed insights into the way the Matildas and the Malditas (Phillipines) are preparing for the AFC Womens Asia Cup 2026. We will get insights from both players and coaches and talk about the changes and growth that have evolved over the Matildas journey. Steve Darby will kick-off the discussion with a 15 minute presentation of how life was in the world of the Matilda's in late 80's/ early 90's and their preparation for major tournaments. Mark Torcaso will then have his 15 minutes presentation on his preparation for the AFC tournament with the Phillipines national team. Emily Husband will explain the Matildas preparation leading into the 2026 AFC tournament. *Many thanks to Joe Montemurro for giving permission and his support for Emily to be a part of these discussions. Mara Watts will have 15 minutes to discuss her experiences playing with the Matildas and the preparations for international games. We will then move into a panel Q and A session with further discussions on the coming tournament. Special guest Mel Andreatta will join us for the panel discussion. Topics are likely to include: - The evolving landscape of women’s football - Tactical and structural trends emerging in Asia - Key themes coaches should watch for during the AFC tournament - How international insights can inform coaching practice at all levels Supporting Women Coaches Thanks to Melissa Andreatta, two FCA memberships will be gifted to female coaches attending the session. This session is open to coaches across all levels and backgrounds. This event has been approved for one hour of CPD, by Football Australia.
