MBS 2021

The Medicare Benefits Schedule is the backbone of the business of private health care services. The subsidised medical services for patients provides rebates for eligible consultations, procedures and investigations allowing patients to claim a rebate towards the cost of services.

Until 2017 there had been almost no training in the MBS leaving many Doctors and health professionals fumbling a complex system of number and rebates and frequently billing incorrectly. Patients were receiving less rebates than they were entitled and Health Professionals were being paid less for the same services.

Business for Doctors was the first organisation to create Medicare Billing workshops that encompassed the background understanding of the MBS, categories and the all important co-billing, or combination billing. The workshops provide insight into the restrictions, billing notations and requirements as well as common mistakes made by health professionals.

Since March 2020 there have been over 200 changes to the MBS creating an even more complex set of rules and regulations for new services such as GP Telehealth services and telephone consultations.

The BFD MBS 2021 series provides up to date information and is ideal for seasoned GPs, practice owners, practice managers and registrars.

Dr April Armstrong has been providing MBS education since 2017 and has presented at over 300 workshops, seminars and conferences. She continues to work in General Practice in Western Australia and has her own businesses in Kalgoorlie and Perth. As a mentor to medical practitioners, practice manager and nurses who have become MBS tutors she continues to be passionate about the "Business of Medicine" and provides regular updates on MBS changes via social media.
