About this event

This hands on workshop for is suitable for postdocs who are contemplating a career change or are ready to develop their own learning plan and take active steps to foster their non-academic career options.

In this workshop we will look at how academic skills do (and don’t) translate outside of academia

During this session, we will work on:

  • How to be ‘so good they can’t ignore you’.
  • Doing a skills gap analysis to help you achieve your career goals.
  • Use PostAc* to construct a learning plan specific to you.

This workshop will be run by Associate Professor Inger Mewburn, Director of Researcher Development at The Australian National University where she oversees professional development workshops and programs for all ANU researchers. Her research is in research education, with a special interest in post-PhD employability. She also blogs as The Thesis Whisperer.

*PostAc University® is a new app to help PhD students into non-academic research careers developed by a research team at the Australian National University. Access to the app is provided as part of the workshop. For more information see: https://thesiswhisperer.com/postac/

Please note that this workshop is limited to 40 places. Please register only if you are committed to attending. If your ability to attend the workshop changes, please contact sbs-emcra@unimelb.edu.au as soon as possible so that we can offer the place to someone else.
