Girls on Key Poetry is excited to present this poetry workshop, Reclaiming Women's Stories with award-winning poet, Sarah Temporal. The winner of the 2018 Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup and author of SlamCraft, Sarah brings her unique skill of retelling and reclaiming stories for those wanting to harness the power of mythology to reclaim their narratives through poetry. All skill levels and experience welcome.

Duration: 2 hours

Open to: Women and gender diverse people of all levels of writing

experience; beginners welcome. 15 years and up.

In this workshop, you will claim a popular fairy-tale or myth and re-create it for the next generation. Explore your personal story in a safe environment, and learn how to transform experience into compelling stories or poetry with innovative writing techniques. Reclaiming stories empowers us to write the narratives we wish to see.

 Understand the powerful role of women in myth and fairy-tales

 Create a short narrative or poem to express your story

About the facilitator:

Sarah Temporal is a performance poet, writer and poetry educator from the Tweed Valley region of NSW, Australia. Her dynamic works craft vivid moments where past and present meet, often combining traditional tales with the immediacy of slam poetry. Sarah is a NSW finalist in the 2019 Australian Poetry Slam, runner-up in the Bunker Spoken-Word Slam, winner of the 2018 Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup, and has featured at Story-fest and Sydney Writers Festival. She is the convenor of Poets Out Loud, an event and project platform for writers of all ages to share their work.
